Agreement

We, ir. Paul VANGANSBEKE, Burgomaster of Kuurne, Laine TARVIS, Chairwoman of the Kuressaare Town Council and Jaanus TAMKIVI, Mayor of Kuressaare,

freely elected and appointed by our fellow-citizens ;

taking into account the mutual wishes of the people of Kuressaare and Kuurne to establish friendly contacts and co-operation for the benefit of the inhabitants of both municipalities ;

confirming the desire of both municipalities to contribute to the causes of world peace, human rights, international understanding and European unity by creating a twinning partnership ;

Hereby solemnly proclaim :

to establish fertile and lasting contacts between the two municipalities concerned, to promote cultural, educational, social, health care and environmental co-operation and to encourage economic development by all means available to them now and in the future, including :

• exchanging delegations and visitors, youth groups, teachers, students, tourists, business people, civic groups and other members of society with common interest
• exchanging information about the activities of local government bodies, culture, tourism, urban development, social welfare, business and sports ;
• exchanging information about the possibilities of funding from the European Union and the Flemish and Belgian Governments for cultural, social and economical exchanges and projects
